Nobody asked for Elon Musk to become involved in our government. Nobody elected him, nobody wanted him and yet here we are with some republican dimwits actually touting a department called “DOGE”. Yes, you read that right. DOGE. Like the Shiba Inu with Comic Sans from a decade ago. The new “Department of Government Efficiency” is so efficient they couldn’t even come up with a name that doesn’t sound like a bad joke from 2013. What was the naming meeting for this department like? Did someone just scroll through Elon’s unhinged Twitter account and go with the first word they saw? It seems more likely that Elon himself was given the ability to name this government agency, and he is still so awkward & doesn’t realize how not badass naming something “DOGE” is. What’s next, the “BRUH” initiative for balancing the budget? The “YEET” task force for tax reform?
On a more serious note, it’s telling, not to mention extremely unethical, that an unelected billionaire is being given the keys to how United States government funding is allocated. For all his supposed brilliance, Musk is no stranger to controversy. Union busting at Tesla, misinformation campaigns, chaos at his companies, his record is a long list of scandals and erratic behavior. And yet here he is, about to head a department that could be the de facto Congress according to other republican dimwits. Because of course, why not give an unelected oligarch even more power? That always works out well.
The idea of “streamlining government” sounds good in theory but in practice means cutting programs that benefit Americans for “efficiency” that benefits the rich. With someone like Musk in charge, who’s to say DOGE won’t just be another tool to serve his own interests? I’d bet my life that is exactly what we’re in for from Donald Trump’s new lover. Watch out, Melania.
So we’ve got ourselves a vanity project masquerading as reform with a cringeworthy name to boot. DOGE might sound like a joke, but the implications are dead serious. If this is the future of governance then we need to start collecting as citizens and deciding if this government is serving us at all — and act accordingly.
