Smells like paint thinner in my apartment - what to do?

Called 911 in case it was a gas leak, fire department came and said it wasn’t gas or carbon monoxide. We think it is most likely our refridgerator - should we unplug it? Unsure what to do, the smell is suffocating.

I did a tour today for a NYC housing lottery apartment in Astoria, Queens. It's two blocks away from the Broadway subway stop, I'll have a 20-minute commute to my employer's office in Midtown West, & there's a nearby supermarket and several restaurants.
